Duke Nukem Forever Tries to Score With Mac Users (PC Magazine)

With across-the-board negative reviews of Duke Nukem Forever, a game which spent 15 years under development, Gearbox Software is now hoping to score with Mac users.

Mac publisher Aspyr Media and Gearbox Software have announced that DNF will release a Mac version this August for $45 if you pre-order here, or $50 after its release.

"We are thrilled to play a part in bringing this gaming experience to the Mac," said Michael Rogers, President of Aspyr Media, in a statement. "Duke Nukem Forever represents many of the best aspects of gaming: shooting aliens, saving ladies in distress, and great tag-lines. We think Mac gamers will love taking a bite of Duke's special pain cake."

Oddly the press release also reads, "Apologizing to no one, Duke Nukem Forever is the high-octane video game equivalent of a Hollywood summer blockbuster..." (emphasis added).

Prefacing a product announcement with "no apologies" is a rare acknowledgment by a gaming publisher of negative reviews. Ever since Duke Nukem Forever launched in June on the Xbox, PlayStation 3, and PC, it has come under heavy criticism from most of the gaming community.

In mid-June, a long-time PR representative was famously fired for threatening to blacklist those who criticized the game (he later apologized for the "emotional" response).

Of course the key question is, will Mac OS users regard the game any more favorably?
