Technology isn?t just something that allows us to surf the Internet from just about anywhere. Rather, it has become something we rely on both personally and professionally. When it comes to trends in technology, it?s often hard to keep up as the tech industry moves much quicker than most.
The following are six of the top trends you should keep track of this year. (Be sure to read fast because, before you know it, these trends will be gone and the next wave of tech will be on its way.)
- The Cloud ? Technology Blogs will tell you that the future of technology lies in the cloud. The cloud came into public view when Google offered Google Documents, where you can store files online and access any of your documents from anywhere ? just as long as you?ve got Internet access. Apple?s cloud services came next with MobileMe and then iCloud, which allows users to synchronize all their information ? email, pictures, calendars, documents ? from one device to the next. These cloud services simplify the lives of many people and also allow businesses to back up company computers and information to a place where they know it?s safe (read: no computer crashes can take away the cloud). In the future, we?ll see these cloud services expanding and advancing to include more people and businesses.
- On-The-Go Technology ? Smartphones and tablets are going to continue to increase as more options continually emerge on the market. This technology is here to stay and it will further increase the amount of time that people are accessible from wherever they happen to be. This will have a large effect on the way business is done and the amount of time and data is used from smartphones. Desktop computers will become the secondary computer rather than the primary source of personal business.
- Voice Command ? Much like the computer that tells you when to turn left in your car?s GPS, or like Apple?s Siri who helps you use your smartphone efficiently, we will be seeing more voice-command technology. All new smartphones will offer a similar digital agent that will use your voice commands to take necessary actions. These voice technologies will also be offered on tablets and soon in stores to help you customers find items they are looking for.
- ?Face-to-Face? Communication ? In line with technologies such as Skype and Apple?s FaceTime, we?ll see more visual communication technology emerging. These technologies will be used more for business meetings and conferences, as well as in homes as every smartphone and tablet will soon have these capabilities. This onscreen visual communication will continue to improve and will play a larger role in online education as well. As we already see some offices using offsite technologies to work on their computers, we?ll see also video chatting between tech gurus and clients, as well as for students learning the craft online.
- Smart TVs ? Some new televisions are already offering applications, much like smartphones have. We?ll be seeing more of these hit the shelves, allowing TV owners to use their applications with their remotes on large screens rather than having to do so on their phones, laptops, or computers. Users of these apps will be able to sync their current devices to their TVs, stream music, view pictures in slideshow form, and a number of other things. It?s also rumored that Apple will be launching their version this year, the iTV, which is basically a huge iPad for your living room.
- 3D ? The third dimension has already hit the mainstream, with new movie releases, video games, and even at-home entertainment systems. The 3D technology will continue to grow and become more accessible for the everyday home. We?ll also start to see 3D on smartphones and other handheld technologies.
