New York City, NY (PRWEB) November 26, 2012

On November 26, 2012, nonprofit organization Voices Against Brain Cancer (VABC) releases a statement following reports of a community lending support for a young girl battling glioblastoma.

According to Amy Demelia, ?Zoe, the daughter of Jen and Pat McMorran, is battling glioblastoma, a form of brain cancer that is very rare in children. She is currently undergoing treatment at the Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center.? Demelia goes on to state, ?Although Zoe is experiencing some difficulties on her left side as a result of a stroke, she recently was thrilled to return to cheerleading, an activity she loves. She also started the sixth grade this fall at North Attleboro Middle School, alongside her twin sister and top supporter, Avery.? The article explains, ?[D]emonstrations of support have been easy to find throughout the community.?

?The McMorran family said they want to let the community know how grateful they are for every helpful gesture and kind word they have received,? stated Demelia.

VABC representative Clay Darrohn, states, ?The hardships that the McMorran family face as their young daughter battles the devastating diagnosis of brain cancer are difficult to imagine, but it is heartwarming and inspiring to see a community lend its support and care while the family goes through this trying time. We believe that community support is essential in dealing with this disease and that through research, support and continued raising of awareness ? we can continue to find better treatment options.?

VABC has a wide variety of initiatives in place for brain cancer research, awareness and support. The organization?s research grants fund cutting-edge research programs that will have a monumental impact on the diagnosis and treatment of brain cancer. VABC currently funds research at several esteemed institutions such as Brookhaven National Laboratory, Cleveland Clinic, Columbia, Cornell, Duke, Harvard, John Hopkins, Memorial Sloan-Kettering and Yale, to name a few.

VABC?s mission is to find a cure for brain cancer by advancing scientific research, increasing awareness within the medical community and supporting patients, their families and caregivers afflicted with this devastating disease.
