Samsung Galaxy S3 vs Nexus 4 vs iPhone 5: S3 Still Best

Last May the world was rocked with the release of the Samsung Galaxy S3, and there was no surprise that it went on to become the best-seller that it did. Apple then came up with the Apple iPhone 5 in September and then it was the turn of LG with the LG Nexus 4, in November. Can these two beat the reigning champion though?

The LG Nexus 4 is powered by the Qualcomm 1.5GHz processor, the 1.2GHz dual core runs on the Apple iPhone 5 and the Samsung Galaxy S3 has the quad core internationally, while over in the US this is a dual core. The slowest is the Apple iPhone 5, but then it beats the iPhone 4S as it has twice the speed. The LG Nexus 4 comes with four cores along with 2GB of RAM, while the Samsung Galaxy S3 has four cores and 1GB or dual cores and 2GB. This means that the LG Nexus 4 beats it.

The LG Nexus 4 comes with Jelly Bean 4.2, while the Samsung Galaxy S3 has been updated to Jelly Bean 4.1. The Apple iPhone 5 has the latest iOS 6 and of course this is the friendliest of the operating systems. If you need the option of being able to customise your handset then you would have to go for the Android OS. The LG Nexus 4 does have an advantage over the Samsung Galaxy S3 thanks to the fact that it would get updates quicker. What you then have to decide over is which you want out of the LG Nexus 4 and the Apple iPhone 5.

You can get choose the 8GB or 16GB versions of the LG Nexus 4, however there is no SD card support. The Samsung Galaxy S3 is offered in 16GB, 32GB or 64GB and you can add another 64GB on to this. The Apple iPhone 5 comes with the same storage choices as above, however there is no SD card support. The winner here is clearly the Samsung Galaxy S3.

The LG Nexus 4 has a display of 4.7 inches and this is True HD IPS. The resolution is 1280 x 768 and it offers 318 ppi. The Apple iPhone 5 has the IPS display of 4 inches, which comes with a resolution of 306 ppi. The largest display is found on the Samsung Galaxy S3 with 4.8 inches, offering 306 ppi and resolution of 1280 x 720. All of the displays have good and not so good points, and the best will be down to what you want. The IPS displays do tend to offer colours that are the most realistic, while the display of the Super AMOLED display tends to be over saturated. This means that the LG Nexus 4, thanks to it having the larger of the IPS displays, is the winner.

The LG Nexus 4 could offer up to 15 hours of talk time as it comes with a large battery of 2100mAh. The Apple iPhone 5 and the Samsung Galaxy S3 will both give up to 8 hours. AnandTech did research and this showed that the Apple iPhone 5 came on top with its battery, closely followed by the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the LG Nexus 4.

The measurements of the LG Nexus 4 are 133.9 mm x 68.7 mm x 9.1 mm and the handset weighs 129 grams. The Samsung Galaxy S3 is 135 grams and is 136.6?70.6 mm x 8.6 mm. The Apple iPhone 5 wins thanks to it having the best design and the fact that it is lighter and thinner. However the LG Nexus 4 isn?t far behind for looks.

Anyone who wants NFC would have to choose between the LG Nexus 4 and the Samsung Galaxy S3. Those wanting LTE have the choice of the Samsung Galaxy S3 or the Apple iPhone 5. If you want both you do have to go for the Samsung Galaxy S3.

You get an 8 megapixel camera on the LG Nexus 4 and it has 1080p video recording and autofocus. The device has a front camera of 1.3 megapixels. The Samsung Galaxy S3 has an 8 megapixel camera also and this comes with LED flash, autofocus and a camera of 1.9 megapixels on the front. The Apple iPhone 5 will not be outdone as this too has the 8 megapixel camera, along with a 1.2 on the front. All cameras come with points that stand out. With the LG Nexus 4 owners have PhotoSphere, with the Apple iPhone 5 low light photos are superb, while with the Samsung Galaxy S3 you can take video and photos at the same time. The Apple iPhone 5 is the winner here and this is down to the outstanding BSI sensor.

Of all the handsets the Apple iPhone 5 is the easiest of the devices to use and it does come with superb looks. The LG Nexus 4 has a price tag is superb and it is packed with great hardware. However, it is let down by storage and the fact that it doesn?t have LTE. The all-round device is the Samsung Galaxy S3 as it comes packed with all the features expected of a flagship at a fair price.
