2012: A Memorable Year in PC Gaming

As the final days of the year approach, it?s only natural to reflect on all that?s happened in 2012. And, I think it?s safe to say it has been another monster year for PC gaming. Immense graphics card launches, huge industry events, AMD gaming get-togethers, legendary games bursting onto the scene ? yep, 2012 has certainly been massive!

However, before we head into 2013 and I let you guys in on a little of what to expect from AMD in the coming year, I want to share some of my personal highlights from 2012:

Never Settle with PC graphics

At the beginning of the year, we launched the latest generation of AMD Radeon? graphics cards with an overhauled architecture. The AMD Radeon? HD 7000 Series graphics, led by the mighty Radeon HD 7970, are the world?s fastest and most advanced GPUs[1]. They are powerful and offer beautiful image quality, stunning 3D gaming and loads of overclocking headroom[2]. And to round off this mega Radeon year we are offering gamers an awesome holiday deal featuring the AMD Radeon HD 7000 Series graphics and top titles like Medal of Honor: Warfighter?, Far Cry? 3 and Hitman Absolution? as part of our Never Settle bundle.

Gamers unite

At AMD, we love gaming events because they bring together some of the best people in the world ? passionate gamers. It?s the best part of our job to be completely surrounded by people who are as into gaming as we are and to see how excited gamers are about what we?ve toiled over (in the best possible way) for months, if not years.

We have hosted some pretty blockbuster events this year including the RADEON? EXTRAVALANZA and a series of AMD Heaven GamExperiences in Dallas, London, Munich, and Paris. The atmosphere at these gaming gatherings is always amazing. Check out this video of the AMD Heaven GamExperience Paris event, where people queued for hours to get to play games like Ghost Recon?, Guild Wars? 2 and World of Tanks?, on high-end gaming set-ups with the best AMD Radeon graphics and multi-screen AMD Eyefinity technology set-ups. The event in London was of mammoth proportions, as well ? take a look:

And, being at the heart of the gaming community means we also get to go to gaming industry tradeshows ? like Gamescom in Germany, DreamHack in Sweden, Comic-Con in San Diego ? and meet crazily passionate industry affiliates and gamers. This video of AMD at DreamHack Winter 2012 gives you an idea of what we get up to at these shows:

The unforgettable games

Not to be forgotten, the calibre of games released this year has been jaw-droppingly good! Some of the titles launched this year include: Alan Wake?, Blacklight: Retribution?, Dishonored DiRT Showdown?, Far Cry 3, Firefall?, Jagged Alliance?: Back in Action, Hitman: Absolution, Medal of Honor: Warfighter, Nexuiz?, Pirate 101?, Sleeping Dogs?, Sniper Elite? V2 and Syndicate?. The quality of these PC games is incredible. All deliver stunning visuals, thrilling gameplay and storylines worthy of Hollywood movies. Hopefully you?ve had a chance to play on a few of them. If not, don?t forget what you just read about our Never Settle bundle ? there?s still time!

A look ahead to 2013?

While 2012 has been mega, 2013 is shaping up to be just as hectic! The next 12 months is poised to see AMD remain at the heart of the biggest and best industry gaming events, working with the top publishers to get the best out of upcoming titles and, of course, launching the next generation of graphics cards, the AMD Radeon HD 8000 Series graphics (codename: ?Sea Islands?) ? from which you can expect a hefty performance boost.

Who knows, maybe some of the exciting games coming in early 2013 will find their way into more AMD products. And with that, I wish you a happy holiday season and hope Santa brings you all the graphics cards (hey, they make great stocking-stuffers!), games and kit that what your heart desires!
