Rutgers assistant Dave Brock to be named Delaware's head coach, according to report

Rutgers will apparently be in the market for its fourth offensive coordinator in as many years.

Dave Brock, who took over the offensive coordinator's responsibilities last fall with mixed results, will be named Delaware's head coach today, according to delawareonline.com, the online partner of the News-Journal of Wilimington (Del.).

Brock, 45, will be formally introduced today to the team, the report said.

Despite a lengthy career as an assistant that began with his first job in 1989 at Salisbury, Brock has no direct ties to Delaware other than through Blue Hens new athletic director Eric Ziady, who was an assistant athletic director at Boston College when Brock was also at that school.

A Moorestown native, Brock replaces K.C. Keeler, who was fired earlier this month despite going 88-52 with a national title (2003) and two other national championship game appearances.

Rutgers, 9-4, averaged 21.5 points under Brock this season, and produced the school's first 1,000-yard rusher since Ray Rice in 2007 when Jawan Jamison topped that mark despite an injury-plagued finish.

But Brock's pro-style offense struggled down the stretch, with the unit producing just four touchdowns -- all passing -- in the final four games. Rutgers did not have an offensive touchdown in a 13-10 overtime loss to Virginia Tech in the Russell Athletic Bowl.

Brock's departure continues the upheaval at the offensive coordinator's position that started when Kirk Ciarrocca was let go following the 2010 season and was replaced by Frank Cignetti, who lasted one year before being replaced by Brock.

Rutgers has had four different offensive coordinators since the 2008 season, when John McNulty oversaw a record-breaking unit.
