CLEVELAND - The hot, dry weather conditions forced Laura and Gary Dumm of Cleveland to do a lot of watering Sunday to help keep plants and flowers in bloom in their front yard.
Impending Fourth of July neighborhood fireworks displays were an even bigger concern for the Dumm's.
"We sit here and see fireworks displays in the sky all over the neighborhood," said Laura.
Laura and Gary were concerned that sparks from neighborhood fireworks displays would catch their plants, mulch, or even their roof on fire.
"Any house can catch on fire and if one house catches on fire, they are all going to start catching fire," she explained.
Laura plans on keeping an eye on things Wednesday night and will have her water hose ready just in case.
Safety forces in Bedford were also taking precautions in advance of Sunday's fireworks show at Chanel High School. Extra safety personnel will be on hand due to the dry conditions. They will be positioned throughout the school grounds with fire hoses and extinguishers.
"Just in case, on the off chance that we do get some hot spots, we'll have enough guys around to make sure that we can get it extinguished quickly," said Bedford Fire Department Lt. Dave Moore.
Laura had a recommendation for residents in her Cleveland neighborhood.
"Everybody should just go to the lake and watch the city's fireworks display that we pay for with our taxes."
