The outdoor area is an important part of our house because it is the first area that people sees upon entering any home. It is the place where we accept visitors and friends other than our living room. It is also a suitable venue to hold variety of events such as birthdays, anniversaries, graduation and many more. In fact, it could also be a fun play area to spend time with children during weekends and holidays.

Because of its importance to the family, it is a must for homeowners to keep it organized, beautiful and presentable. One way of beautifying our outdoor area is by landscaping our garden or, as some would call it, our ?vacant area?.

What is landscaping?

Landscaping is both an art and a science which involves the modification, contouring and incorporation of different types of natural and man-made accessories with the purpose of beautifying outdoor spaces, enhancing the look of ones lifestyle and modifying a specific area. Aside from home improvements and redecoration, landscaping also increases the market value of our property.

However, landscaping is not merely done by placing any type of ornaments or things you could think of. Rather, it entails consideration of its elements and, of course, your skills in gardening.

The different elements of landscaping include:

Living elements ? It brings together not only plants, but also insects, animals, and air to create a healthy garden. It also promotes and supports sustainable methods to boost healthy garden environment.
Flora and fauna
Nature Elements ? It is a landscape unaffected by the different types of human activity.
Shape
Elevation of landforms
Bodies of water
Lighting
Humidity
Man-made elements ? These are man-made ornaments used in landscaping.
Fences
Walls
Statues
Water fountains

Each of the elements of landscaping does not exist alone because they complement one another. Gardeners use shrubs, flowers and vines to beautify landscape designs. Flora and fauna blend well with the different man-made structures like statues, fences, walls, water fountains and jars. To grow healthy and beautiful plants, they need proper care, humidity, pruning and sunlight. Meanwhile, nature elements like stones, rocks, lakes and ponds add texture to the flora and fauna and influence the whole landscape design theme.

Landscaping which is purely based on nature and living elements cannot achieve over-all design concept. Thus, gardeners incorporate other landscaping elements. In achieving the desired concept, they add man-made elements and the other above mentioned elements. Meanwhile, humidity and temperature influence the growth of flora and fauna . In other words, the overall design of the landscape will depend on how the elements interact with each other.

Outdoor landscaping not only curbs and beautifies the total appeal and appearance of your property. It also increases the market value of your property.

After achieving the desired landscape for your outdoor area, you need to maintain it to keep it in tip top shape. If you lack the time and skills to do the job, you can always hire a professional landscaper to maintain and develop your outdoor space for you.

With these tips and suggestions on outdoor landscaping, you can achieve a beautiful outdoor space suitable for whatever outdoor events.
