Bradley Wiggins: 2012 Olympic Gold Medalist and Tour de France ...

For a British sports star, Bradley Wiggins actually comes from very international roots. He was born in Belgium to an English mother and an Australian father, who was an excellent cyclist but a poor father and husband. When his father walked out on his mother in 1982, Bradley and his mother moved back to London to live with his grandparents. He was only two.

Despite all this, Wiggins initially became hooked on cycling partly thanks to the knowledge that it was his father's sport, and partly because he was inspired by cyclists, such as Olympic gold medalist Chris Boardman, he had seen on television. At the age of 12, he started racing at London's Herne Hill Velodrome, and later participated in the London Youth Games. His training during this time would prepare him for his first Olympic Games in Sydney.
