HONOLULU (AP) ? A flight attendant is landing in the Guinness Book of World Records after his 63 years of moving about the cabin ended in his home state of Hawaii.
Eighty-three-year-old Ron Akana (ah-KAHN'-ah) finished his career as the longest-serving flight attendant for any U.S. carrier over the weekend on a United Airlines flight from Denver to Kauai.
The Honolulu-born Akana says he's been told he will go into the record book in October.
After returning home to Colorado, he spent Tuesday writing thank you notes for the all well-wishes from passengers who heard about his longevity through an in-flight announcement.
He plans to spend the rest of his retirement traveling.
Akana decided to retire when he was offered a buyout. He was one of the first male flight attendants at United.
